Can you play Roblox on Linux or a Steam Deck?

You can play Roblox on Linux, but only through an unofficial community route, because Roblox has no native Linux client. The tool most people use is Sober, a Flatpak on Flathub that runs Roblox on Linux and on the Steam Deck's desktop mode. It works well for a lot of players, but since it is not made by Roblox, treat it as best-effort rather than guaranteed.

Whichever way you get in, our browser tools work everywhere, including in a Linux browser. The same free extension behind Roblox on Mac installs in Chrome or Firefox on Linux and improves the roblox.com website the same way it does on any other system.

Why there's no official Roblox on Linux

Roblox ships native apps for Windows, macOS, Chromebook, mobile and consoles, but not for desktop Linux. It has not committed to one, and its anti-cheat setup has historically been the sticking point. So there is no download button on the Roblox site that gives you a Linux client. That gap is exactly why the community built its own way in.

Sober: the Flatpak community route

Sober is a community-maintained Flatpak that runs the Roblox client on Linux. You install it from Flathub the same way you would any other Flatpak, sign in with your normal account, and launch experiences from there. It is not an exploit and it does not change the game to cheat. Just keep in mind that when Roblox updates, an unofficial wrapper can lag behind for a day or two until the maintainers catch up.

Roblox on a Steam Deck

The Steam Deck runs SteamOS, which is Linux, so the same rules apply. Drop into desktop mode, open the Discover software store, install Sober from Flathub, and you can add it back to Game Mode as a non-Steam shortcut. Plenty of Deck owners play Roblox this way. It is the practical answer for handheld Linux, with the same unofficial caveat.

Where BetterBLOX fits on Linux

The BetterBLOX extension runs in your Linux browser and upgrades roblox.com with a dark theme, server region and ping info, and profile tools. On the desktop-app side, BetterStrap ships on Windows and macOS, but not Linux, and a native Linux bootstrapper is not something we can promise yet. For now, the extension is the part that works on Linux out of the box.

Common questions about Roblox on Linux

Is there an official Roblox client for Linux?

No. Roblox does not publish a native Linux build, and it has said in the past that it does not plan to. Anything you find for Linux is community-made and unofficial, so it can break whenever Roblox pushes an update.

What is Sober for Roblox?

Sober is a community-maintained Flatpak, available on Flathub, that lets you run Roblox on Linux. It is the most common route people use today. Because it is not made by Roblox, treat it as best-effort: it usually works well, but nobody owes you a fix if an update breaks it.

Can you play Roblox on a Steam Deck?

Yes, through the same community route. Switch the Steam Deck to desktop mode, install Sober from Flathub using the Discover app, then launch it. Since SteamOS is Linux, there is no official Roblox client, so Sober is how most Deck players get in.

Will Roblox ban you for using Sober on Linux?

Sober is designed to run the normal Roblox client without cheating, so it is not an exploit. That said, it is unofficial and not something Roblox supports, so use it at your own discretion. It does not modify the game to gain an advantage, which is the behavior that actually gets accounts banned.
